Guruhub Walkathon believe in the power of technology to transform lives, but we also recognize the importance of stepping away from the desk to connect with nature and community. Our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle among tech enthusiasts while advocating for the adoption of technology in our communities.
Our Story
Techies Walkathon started in the city of Calabar in 2024 through Guru Innovation Hub and the support of tech communities in the city. Our goal is to build a social movement that encourages techies and tech lovers to live healthy while advocating for the adoption of tech in africa. During the first edition, over 500+ young people joined us for a 6-kilometer walk through the city of calabar, marking a new level of commitment to the growth of the ecosystem. Our vision is to promote technology, wellness, and digital literacy across cities, towns, and communities worldwide through the Techies Walkathon.
Our preparation process
Nutrition
Nutrition plays a vital role in performance. Ensure your meals consist of 50-60% carbohydrates for glycogen storage, along with 10-20% protein. Electrolytes are necessary to avoid cramps, and hydration is key to maintaining energy levels.
Hydration
Stay hydrated before, during, and after the walkathon. Sip water regularly, and consider sports drinks for added electrolytes during long walks.
Recovery
Allow your body to recover properly with rest and nutrition. Alternate between walking and strength exercises, and ensure you get adequate sleep and nutrition.
Proper Gear
Choose appropriate walking shoes and moisture-wicking socks. Wear comfortable, breathable clothing and avoid anything too tight or loose.
